CPTI provide a number of courses leading to an academic qualification. To achieve this CPTI works with two universities; Queen Margaret University (QMU) and Napier University, both in Edinburgh.
Transactional Analysis Awards
QMU validate and award two MSc degrees; these are an MSc in Transactional Analysis Counselling and an MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy with CTA. The MSc is linked to the CTA; this is the professional TA qualification that makes the therapist eligible for membership of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Both TA MSc degrees require previous TA training as pre-entry conditions; these are provided by CPTI in a Foundation Year and first Advanced Year training. CPTI recognise TA training by other registered TA training establishments and registrants for the MSc programme can count other satisfactorily completed TA training as Recognised Prior Learning (RPL); this training must include the requisite written assignments; a completion of assignments may be required as a condition of acceptance.
The taught elements of the TA MSc degrees are part time over two years; the counselling MSc is then completed by an MSc project, to support this CPTI provide a Professional Development Group meeting for two days five times per year. The psychotherapy qualification carries additional professional requirements that including further practice and supervision and a psychiatric placement.
