A service offering counselling to clients with limited means
The Background
The Edinburgh Institute for Counselling & Psychotherapy was established in 1993 to provide counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples and groups. We have always been aware that fee levels inevitably stop some people from engaging in counselling.
The Service
We have now agreed with our sister organisation the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute to offer lower price counselling provided by trainees who have been endorsed to practice. All counsellors working in this are insured and in regular supervision.
How much does it cost?
Regular fees charged by EICP practitioners range from £45 - £55 per session, under the low cost counselling service clients will be charged £25 per session and in appropriate cases this may be reduced to £18.
How does it work?
Prospective clients should contact EICP reception indicating their interest in this service. They will be offered an assessment session at an agreed time. There is no charge for this consultation the purpose of which is for the client to decide that s/he wants to work with this counsellor and for the counsellor to ensure that s/he has the resources to work with the issues raised. Should the latter not be the case, s/he will offer to refer the client to a counsellor with more relevant experience.
We hope that this service will expand the availability of counselling to a broader clientele.
