Note that not all modules are run every year

In addition there is an e-module in Research Methods which is obligatory for MSc students.

These modules carry dual outcome credits at both undergraduate and masters level. A Post Graduate Certificate, a Post Graduate Diploma or an MSc degree will be awarded on successful completion of a number of core and optional modules together with practice hours and other professional and academic requirements.

The taught elements of the training programme are run over two years with the master’s dissertation being undertaken in the third year. Students sign up on a modular basis and may gain credits at graduate or post graduate levels for individual modules. On completion of the first year programme, students may exit with a post graduate certificate, completion of the second year modules would give eligibility for a post graduate diploma. Completion of six modules, including core modules, gives eligibility for an MSc based on a dissertation written in the third year. Whilst credits can be gained for individual modules, the award of PG Certificate or Diploma and the MSc qualifications require a practice element within the training; this must be completed at each stage together with supervision and personal work.

Course Entry
The courses are designed for both those entering counselling training for the first time and for those wanting to add knowledge and skills in specific modalities to their existing qualifications. Entry to this course is by application where applicants are required to demonstrate their capability for study at the appropriate level. In addition students entering for the diploma or Msc will be invited to attend an interview. A commitment to personal development is an important part of training; personal work is a requirement for those entering for a post graduate award. Entry requirements for an MSc include a first degree or the equivalent professional and life experience commensurate with becoming a counsellor.

Qualifications
The course is designed to provide credits for individual modules at graduate or post graduate levels, the award of a post graduate certificate in one tear, post graduate diploma in two years or a masters degree in three years, all these awards are subject to validation by Napier University, Edinburgh.
